Description
Description
In many ways, the SD70ACU is a modified SD90MAC. The SD90MAC struggled to find a place on US and Canadian Railroads in the 90s. While Union Pacific and Canadian Pacific purchased many of these engines smaller railroads felt alienated from the gigantic prime movers which limited the SD90MAC's operational use. In 2016 Norfolk Southern decided to convert several SD90MACs to SD70ACUs, the Siemens tech was swapped with Mitsubishi components and the cab was replaced with the SD70ACe's cab.
Canadian Pacific decided to rebuild their collection of SD90MACs as well. However instead of going to Norfolk Southern to rebuild these engines, they reached out to Progress Rail instead. 60 ACUs were delivered in 2019, and this order contained several heritage units. These special heritage units were used to commemorate different branches of the US and Canadian Army.
CP 7020 is painted in NATO green, replicating the standard camouflage used by Canadian and U.S. military vehicles in temperate areas. It's a faithful nod to defense-oriented equipment.
CP 7021 features a desert tan paint scheme, accurately representing vehicles operating in sand-heavy climates.
CP 7022 is considered the Navy variant. It's detailed in a grey, red, and black paint which is inspired by Canadian and American warships
CP 7023 is painted in a two-tone grey finish. This closely resembles colors seen on modern fighter jets.
CP 6644 proudly wears a camouflage paint scheme based on the Royal Canadian Air Force Spitfires flown during the D-Day invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

What is preordering and why would I want to do that?
What is preordering and why would I want to do that?
In the model railroading world, most products are made in limited runs. Manufacturers no longer produce large quantities to sit in warehouses. Instead, they announce new items and set a preorder deadline. After that date, production is based largely on the number of reservations received.
Preordering through Model Train Stuff guarantees your spot in line for these limited releases. When the products arrive, orders are filled in the order they were placed. The earlier you preorder, the better your chance of getting your items, even if there are shipping delays or shortfalls from the manufacturer.
