Description

Broadway Limited Imports is excited to bring back one of the most famous steam locomotives in the world to N scale - the legendary Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014!

Whether you've seen it in person or followed its incredible excursions across the country, Big Boy No. 4014 has captured the imagination of railroad fans everywhere. This new production run celebrates the locomotive's remarkable return to steam with several exciting new versions that have never before been offered in N scale.

For the first time, we're introducing three new versions of No. 4014, including two models representing its current appearance during the America's 250th Anniversary Tour, as well as a special edition featuring the locomotive's unique smoke deflectors as seen during its memorable 2025 excursion between Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Denver, Colorado. Each version has been carefully recreated with the prototype-specific details that make these appearances so distinctive.

To make these models our most accurate Big Boys yet, we've added a number of all-new details, including the commemorative front grab iron placard, the golden eagle mounted above the headlight, aluminum tires and walkway stripes, a newly tooled dual-beam headlight, a new pilot and coupler cover, and the special Union Pacific shield with red, white, and blue striping carried during the East Coast Tour.

Fans of the original Big Boys haven't been forgotten, either. This production run also includes two road numbers in their 1941 as-delivered appearance, complete with aftercoolers and the 25-C-100 coal tender, along with two additional road numbers representing the locomotives in their 1944 appearance, featuring Wilson aftercoolers and the larger 25-C-400 coal tender.

Every model will be available with our Paragon4 Sound/DC/DCC system with synchronized smoke, delivering the sights, sounds, and performance that have made Broadway Limited Imports locomotives favorites among model railroaders. For those who prefer to install their own electronics, we'll also offer our Stealth DCC-Ready version, equipped with a Next18 decoder interface and a factory-installed speaker for easy decoder installation.

Whether you're recreating today's unforgettable excursions behind No. 4014 or building a fleet of historic Union Pacific Big Boys from the steam era, this production run offers something for every fan of the world's largest operating steam locomotive. With all-new details, multiple eras to choose from, and Broadway Limited Imports' signature realism, these models are sure to become the centerpiece of any N scale collection.

About The Prototype: There were 25 locomotives fabricated in two different groups. Class 1 were locomotives #4000-4019 and Class 2 was numbered 4020-4024. The first Big Boy #4000 was delivered to Omaha, NE on September 5, 1941. The Union Pacific Railroad's commitment to the Big Boy required them to replace the lighter rail and straighten out many miles of track for clearance as well as to resize elements of their service areas (such as turntable lengths, etc.) for the entire line these locos would run on.

The Big Boys demonstrated fantastic strength and speed as they faced these challenges throughout their storied careers. With the total mileage on the Big Boy fleet being approximately 1,000,000 miles for each locomotive, one must say that they earned their reputation.

    Preorders: Frequently Asked Questions

What is preordering and why would I want to do that?

In the model railroading world, most products are made in limited runs. Manufacturers no longer produce large quantities to sit in warehouses. Instead, they announce new items and set a preorder deadline. After that date, production is based largely on the number of reservations received.

Preordering through Model Train Stuff guarantees your spot in line for these limited releases. When the products arrive, orders are filled in the order they were placed. The earlier you preorder, the better your chance of getting your items, even if there are shipping delays or shortfalls from the manufacturer.

Preordering is as easy as 1-2-3!

    1. Preordering is available on any item with the word "Preorder" as the first word in the product title.
    2. We will email your invoice approximately 30-45 days before your preorder items land at the warehouse. With the interactive invoice you can select your preferred shipping method and pay the balance of your order right online!
    3. We'll ship you your preorder once your invoice is paid online.

How can I place a preorder?

To place a preorder, simply look for items marked with "PREORDER" in their title on our website. Add the item to your cart and proceed to checkout. You'll be required to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your reservation.

When will I be charged for my preorder?

You'll be charged a 10% deposit at the time of placing your preorder. The remaining balance, along with any applicable sales tax and shipping charges, will be due when the item is ready to be shipped. We'll notify you via email with a link to complete your payment.

    Can I cancel my preorder?

Preorders can be canceled, but please note that the 10% deposit is non-refundable and will not be credited to store credit, as it goes toward covering the cost of the uncollected reservation.

    When will my preorder ship?

The estimated shipping date for each preorder item is listed on the product page. We'll also keep you updated via email if there are any changes to the shipping schedule. Once your final payment is received, your item will be shipped according to your selected shipping method.

What happens if a preorder item is delayed or canceled by the manufacturer?

In the rare event that a preorder item is delayed or canceled by the manufacturer, we'll notify you as soon as possible. You can choose to wait for the item, apply your deposit to a different item, or request a refund or store credit for your deposit.

How do I check the status of my preorder?

You can check the status of your preorder by logging into your account on our website and viewing your order history. We'll also keep you updated via email with any important information regarding your preorder.
