Soundtraxx 884006 TSU-1100 1-Amp Sound Decoder for Steam Models

Decoder installation was straight forward and I had the loco up and running the same day I received it. The loco ran great right up until today (one week of use about 1/2 per day, max) when suddenly the bell stopped ringing (all the other functions, including whistles, headlight, and forward and reverse continued to work). I opened up the tender to find that the back end of the TSU-1100 had split open. Putting it back on the track without the tender cover installed there was no change in loco function but the decoder was getting very hot to the touch. I am guessing that some sort of internal short occurred, but that is just a guess on my part. I had installed this decoder in a Bachmann 4-4-0 loco that was DCC Ready and really need to transition this loco as I cannot stand the loco singing when parked on powered track (on my DCC layout).

Havent been able to use the decoder. Getting an error code that TSU support doesnt recognize. Im giving Soundtraxx 3 stars because Ive been quite pleased with their product in the past. This particular decoder is a bugger. With 50 or so past sound decoder installs I guess its time to expect a stinker. Will continue to work with TSU support.

Relatively easy to install and program.

Ordered a few decoders, arrived quickly and packaged well. Great experience.
