Atlas Z 2812 Code 55 Track #6 Turnout, Right

When it comes to track and turnouts you are looking for reliability and consistency. In Z-Scale (where locomotives and rolling stock are incredibly light) it is important to have consistent track rail and tie height that joins one piece to another seamlessly. So far Atlas has come through. Track switches also need consistent rail and tie height along with positive point contact for consistent electrical pick up. Atlas has used a small spring to force the points against the stock rail whether closed or open. This helps keep the power flowing through the points and frog for consistent running. These springs are designed much like the PECO N-Scale track switch that is considered very reliable. The Z-Scale Atlas track switch is also designed with an electrical contact point to run independent power to the frog that will require at least a single pole double throw electrical switch to operate as designed. If combined with a tortoise or like switch machine the SPDT is built in. Z-Scale flex track in general is difficult to tack/nail down given its rail and tie size. Although not a personal favorite, gluing is an option.
