About this model
American Car & Foundry built the Type 27 from the late 1920s through the 1940s. It's an insulated, high-pressure car made for loads like chlorine, anhydrous ammonia, propane and butane, and this 6,000-gallon version often ran in chlorine service. Most were privately owned, so they carried their shippers' names.
Hooker Chemicals in the bold billboard scheme. Hooker's main plant was at Niagara Falls, New York.
This box: two cars with different road numbers. Chlorine was widely used to treat drinking water, so a car like this could be spotted at a waterworks as well as a chemical plant.
Pairs well with
- the Hooker as-delivered scheme
- UP FEF-3 #837 or #839 for a 1950s mixed freight
- the other twelve 2-packs: all thirteen give you 26 different cars
Running a spur? With two cars you can spot one at the plant while the other is out on the road.
