An evolution of the earlier FPA-2, these units were powered by an ALCO 12-cylinder 251 prime mover. CN ordered 34 A-units and 12 B-units, which were delivered between 1958 and 1959. These would hold down many of CN’s eastern passenger runs, right on up to the creation of VIA Rail in 1977. VIA would keep most of these venerable locomotives in service until early 1989, when they were withdrawn to comply with new
federal regulations.

In this release, the VIA “blue logo” FPA-2 and FPA-4 diesels can be purchased separately with the CN 1961 scheme, in A+B sets.
